Qualifying from the Getting-On Race was the main objective of M3’s term, so there was plenty of nervous energy in the boat – not helped by the fact that the crew knew that they had one broken footplate in the Aula, and another one broke on the way down! Hasty repairs were conducted while parked at Baitsbite Lock, and were thankfully completed in time for the race. Seb Parr at stroke wound the rate quickly up to 32 which was held all the way down the course. On the Reach the crew encountered the strongest headwind they’d ever rowed in which slowed the boat, but the final time of 9:26 was good enough to qualify for bumps. M3 will start tenth in division 4, with Sidney Sussex II in their sights for day one.
